Standard for painted walls — three coats with light sanding. Works with flat or eggshell paint.

Drywall finishing runs about $0.85 to $1.50 per square foot, depending on the finish level and complexity. Level 3 (for textured surfaces) costs less since texture hides imperfections. Level 4 is the standard for most painted walls. Level 5 — a full skim coat for glass-smooth surfaces — costs more due to the extra labor.

Level 3 finish includes tape embedded in joint compound with one additional coat — suitable for areas that will receive heavy texture like orange peel or knockdown. Level 4 is the standard for most residential applications: three coats of joint compound with light sanding, appropriate for flat or eggshell paint. Level 5 is the premium option where we skim coat the entire surface for a perfectly smooth finish — required for glossy or semi-gloss paint, critical lighting conditions, or high-end applications. We'll recommend the appropriate level based on your paint choice and room lighting.
Absolutely. We offer finishing as a standalone service. If you or another contractor hung the drywall, we're happy to handle just the mudding, taping, sanding, and priming. Many DIY homeowners and general contractors throughout West Central Minnesota hire us specifically for finishing work since it requires specialized skill and patience to achieve smooth, paint-ready surfaces. We'll inspect the hanging work first to ensure it's ready for finishing.
